க. விஜய நகர வேந்தன் தேவராயன் - 15ம் நூற்றாண்டு காலத்தில் இவ்வூரின் (கொழிஞ்சிப்பாடி) பெயர் நரையனுர் நாடு - உடையபிராட்டி சதுர்வேதிமங்கலம் என்பதாகும் . இந்த கோவிலின் பெயர் - அழகிய சொக்கனார் கோவில் , அருகில் உள்ள இடம் அழகிய சொக்கபுரம் (இன்றைய மீனாட்சிபுரம் - சொக்கநாதபாளையம்) .

கோயில் துலுக்கவாணத்தில் இறங்கல்பட்டு அதாவது இஸ்லாமியர் வெடியால் இடிந்துபட மாயநாயக்கருக்கு தர்மமாக தரங்கையா மன்றாடியார் திருப்பணி செய்து சீர்செய்தமையைக் குறிப்பிடுகிறது.
